Lightning strikes on Friday afternoon caused power outages affecting customers on Kvaløya, Norway, with repair efforts hampered by continued severe weather.

According to Arva’s outage map, five customers were initially impacted by the disruption.

Crews from Frost kraftentreprenør and Arva attempted to reach the affected area on snowmobiles Friday evening to assess the damage, but were forced to turn back due to hazardous conditions.

“We made an attempt, but quickly realized it wasn’t possible due to the weather,” said Tor Ivar Larsen of Arva.

Another attempt to restore power is planned for Saturday morning.

A separate outage in Dåfjord, also weather-related, is impacting 75 customers. Arva stated, “The outage is known and the fault location has been found. In consultation with the meteorologist, it has been decided to postpone the work until tomorrow, March 7th, due to the risk of lightning and thunder.”
