Elwy shared a post on Facebook, accompanied by a striking image, stating, “Life is attractive with love, days are beautiful with love, dreams are beautiful with love, and relationships are beautiful when filled with love. Love is the most beautiful thing in the world, it eases the difficulties of life, and gives every moment a different taste.” She encouraged followers to remember that love can be found in family, friends, and even neighbors.

Elwy began her acting career early, appearing in radio and television programs with her sister Lamia at the age of seven, including children’s shows like “Asafir Al-Gannah” and “Baba Sharo.” At fifteen, she was discovered by the renowned artist Nour El-Sherif, launching her stage career with a role in “Thamani Sittat” directed by Galal El-Sharkawy.
She made her cinematic debut in 1977 with “Min Agl Al-Hayah” alongside Rushdi Abaza, followed by “Al-Busa’a” in the same year. Throughout her career, Elwy has appeared in approximately 84 films, including notable titles such as “Kharag Wa Lam Ya’ud,” “Gharam Al-Afa’i,” “Bahib Al-Cinema,” “Al-Masir,” “Isharat Murur,” “Idhak Al-Soura Titla’ Helwa,” and “Lailat Al-Baby Doll.” She earned the nicknames “Apple of Egyptian Cinema” and “Cat of Egyptian Cinema” for her performance in the film “Tuffaha.”
On television, Elwy has participated in 44 series, including “Hadith Al-Sabah Wal-Masai,” “Napoleon Wal-Mahrousa,” “Hikayat Wa Ben’eesha,” “Al-A’ila,” “Bint Min Shubra,” “Farah Laila,” and “Hiya Wa Da Vinci.” In theater, she has presented nine works, with “Al-Gameela Wal-Wahsheen” being her most recent.
On a personal note, Laila Elwy married businessman Mansour El-Gamal in 2007 and divorced him in 2015. She adopted her nephew, Khaled, the son of her late aunt.
