Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4: Auction Failure & Value Concerns

The Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 has proven to be a divisive model since its debut. While it garnered praise from some upon its unveiling, an equally significant number of enthusiasts were less impressed. However, this did not impact sales, as all 112 units were immediately purchased.

In the United States, the base price for the vehicle was $2.64 million, easily climbing close to $3 million with a few added options – roughly equivalent to 1 billion Hungarian Forint as of today’s exchange rates. While some limited-series Ferrari models tend to appreciate in value over time, the Countach, built on the foundations of the Lamborghini Sián, has faced a more challenging reality in the auction market.

A recent auction on Bring a Trailer saw a high bid of $2.2 million, which still fell short of the reserve price, resulting in the car going unsold. The vehicle had accumulated just 142 miles (228 kilometers).

This wasn’t the first attempt to capitalize on the vehicle’s exclusivity. In September 2024, the same car sold for $2.5 million at the same auction house, already a significant decrease from the original sticker price of $2,836,528. At that time, it had only 85 miles on the odometer.

By comparison, the Ferrari Daytona SP3, of which 599 units were produced, has performed much better at auction. With a starting price of around $2.2 million, one example sold for $6.8 million last year.

The Countach’s stagnant value is likely similarly due to the fact that, despite its unique bodywork and redesigned interior, it isn’t significantly different mechanically from the base model. It utilizes the same 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 and electric motor as the Sián, with a combined output of 770 horsepower.
