A flight from Bogotá to Rionegro was forced to return to El Dorado International Airport on Friday, February 13, after a dispute between two passengers disrupted the flight. The incident highlights the challenges airlines face with maintaining order and safety during air travel.
According to accounts shared on social media, the pilot informed passengers that emergency protocols were activated due to a disruptive passenger who was jeopardizing the safety of the crew and other travelers. The flight crew decided to interrupt the journey and return to Bogotá as a precautionary measure.
LATAM Airlines sources stated, “the plane never actually took off, it only taxied and then returned to the gate for disembarkation.”
Uniformed officers boarded the aircraft and removed one of the individuals involved in the altercation to restore order and ensure the safety of the flight.
Whereas specific details regarding the cause of the confrontation have not been released, some passengers reported an atmosphere of nervousness and concern on board. Several users on social media described the situation as “like a movie,” while others questioned the behavior of those involved in such incidents on commercial flights.

“A lack of respect for other passengers and pilots. I would be dead, but not from laughter, but from pure fear,” one user wrote on X, referencing the increasing frequency of similar cases across various airlines.
After the passenger was removed from the plane, the airline was able to reorganize the cabin and continue the flight to Rionegro. The flight was finally able to resume its scheduled route once safety conditions were assured.
The incident underscores the importance of maintaining discipline and respect on board, in an environment where any inappropriate behavior can affect the safety of all occupants.
LATAM’s Response

The crew acted in accordance with procedures, prioritizing the safety of passengers and the team at all times.”
The airline also stated that “upon arrival at the Medellín airport, and following the corresponding guidelines, the accompaniment of the competent authorities was requested for disembarkation. The operation was carried out safely, and the airline reiterates its commitment to safety as a fundamental value of its service.”
