A fatal house fire in Ikšķile, Latvia, claimed the life of a 28-year-old man, according to reports. The incident underscores the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning and the importance of fire safety.
The home, now heavily damaged by flames, will serve as a stark reminder of the tragedy for the man’s family, who live in a neighboring house.
The victim’s mother shared her grief and recounted the circumstances leading to the fire.
“It caught fire, or maybe it was overheated. He was tired, fell asleep and was poisoned by fumes. The little dog also died. They were both sleeping next to each other,” the woman said.
Neighbors on Sporta Street were unaware of the fire until informed by news reports. Baiba, a neighbor, described the man as a kind and unassuming individual. “He was a normal young man. I reckon he was an auto mechanic. He always drove a car, very polite,” she said.
