Latvia experienced a record-breaking stretch of warm weather on Wednesday, with eleven observation stations surpassing previous high-temperature marks for March 11, according to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC).
The highest air temperature was recorded in Mērsrags, reaching 13.3 degrees Celsius (55.9 degrees Fahrenheit). A new temperature record was also set in Riga, where the air warmed to 12.4 degrees Celsius (54.3 degrees Fahrenheit).
As of 3 p.m. Local time, temperatures across the LVĢMC observation network ranged from 6.1 degrees Celsius (43 degrees Fahrenheit) in Liepāja Port to 13.3 degrees Celsius (55.9 degrees Fahrenheit) in Mērsrags.
The all-time high-temperature record for March 11 in Latvia remains at 14.9 degrees Celsius (58.8 degrees Fahrenheit), set last year in Daugavpils.
Over the past two weeks, heat records have been broken on eight days, resulting in a total of 47 records being surpassed. This sustained period of unseasonably warm weather is drawing attention to climate trends in the region.
