Riga, Latvia – Latvia’s labor market showed stability in February, with the unemployment rate holding steady despite a minor increase in the number of registered unemployed individuals. The figures, released by the State Employment Agency (NVA), offer a snapshot of the country’s economic conditions as it navigates ongoing global economic trends.
The NVA data indicates that 45,761 people were registered as unemployed at the end of February 2026, a marginal rise from the 45,729 recorded in January. This translates to a national unemployment rate of 5.2%, consistent with the previous month’s figure.
Regional disparities persist, with Riga demonstrating the lowest unemployment rate at 3.8%, a slight improvement from January. The Latgale region, however, continues to face greater challenges, reporting an unemployment rate of 10.6%, a marginal increase over the month. Kurzeme’s unemployment rate remained at 5.8%, while Zemgale saw a slight uptick to 5.3%.
Vidzeme’s unemployment rate held steady at 5% in February. Looking back to the end of 2025, the overall registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 5% of the economically active population, suggesting a relatively stable labor market.
These figures are closely watched by economists and investors as indicators of Latvia’s economic health and potential for growth. The consistent unemployment rate suggests a degree of resilience in the Latvian economy, though regional variations highlight the need for targeted support and development initiatives.
