Latvian Musician Vairis Nartišs Performs on Britain’s Got Talent

From the prestige of the concert hall to the eccentricity of a nose flute, Latvian musician Vairis Nartišs recently took a bold leap onto the global stage of Britain’s Got Talent.

Nartišs, a seasoned professional who has spent more than 25 years performing with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, is primarily a trombonist. Although, he traded his traditional instrument for a series of unconventional objects during his audition, delivering a spirited performance of “I Like to Move It” that left the audience enthralled.

Despite the crowd’s energy, the judging panel remained skeptical. The act failed to secure a spot in the next round after three of the four judges gave the performance a negative rating, ending Nartišs’ run in the competition.

This daring appearance is part of a growing trend of “junk” instrumentation for the musician. In 2024, Nartišs appeared on the Latvian show Ir Talants, where he fascinated viewers by constructing functional wind instruments from everyday items, including milk cartons, garden hoses, fuel nozzles, watering cans, pots, and even sink plungers. He also showcased a similar repertoire during a stint on a Lithuanian talent show last year.

The performance highlights the artist’s versatility, bridging the gap between high-brow orchestral music and avant-garde street performance on one of the world’s most-watched talent platforms.
