Latvian National Opera and Ballet soloist Didzis Bičevskis is also a well-known vocal arts pedagogue, running his own “Riga Pop&Rock Studio.” He has mentored numerous Latvian singers, including Linda Leen, Aija Andrejeva, and Ieva Kerevica, but as reported by the magazine “Jauns un Privāts,” Bičevskis has taken on another role in recent years: pet-sitting.
The musician happily takes on childcare duties when his close friend, Aija Andrejeva, and her husband, Jānis Aišpurs, travel, leaving their beloved pets – an Australian Shepherd named Aura and, previously, a cat named Muris – in his care.
It turns out that a close friendship between Bičevskis and Andrejeva began around six years ago, making the offer to support a natural one. Bičevskis explained to the magazine how it all started: “It seems it was when Aija needed to go on a Latvian concert tour, and she asked if I could help and look after her pets, the cat Muris and the puppy Dadu, who has now gone to other hunting grounds…”.
Bičevskis reveals that when he’s acting as a pet-sitter for the Andrejeva and Aišpurs family’s furry companions, the singer moves into the musicians’ home, as that’s when the animals feel most secure. “They get upset when their owners are away.”
The Latvian opera star’s additional role highlights the close-knit community within the country’s entertainment industry. Bičevskis’s willingness to step in and care for Andrejeva’s pets demonstrates a heartwarming level of friendship and support.
