Latvian beach volleyball duo Mārtiņš Pļaviņš and Kristiāns Fokerots are continuing their strong performance on the international circuit with a pair of victories at the “Elite 16” tournament in Brazil. The competition, held in Recife, represents a crucial stage in the professional beach volleyball tour as teams vie for ranking points and qualification for major championships. Pļaviņš and fokerots’ advancement to the second round of playoffs demonstrates their potential as contenders on the world stage.
Latvian duo Mārtiņš Pļaviņš and Kristiāns Fokerots secured their second consecutive victory on Thursday at the “Elite 16” beach volleyball tournament in Brazil, punching their ticket to the second round of the playoffs.
Competing as the second seed in Pool B, Pļaviņš and Fokerots dominated Austria’s Alexander Horst and Moritz Pristau-Telsnig with a decisive 2-0 win (21:16, 21:14), finishing atop their group. This Elite 16 event is a key stop on the professional beach volleyball tour, attracting some of the world’s top talent.
Playoff matches in the second round are scheduled for Saturday.
The Latvian pair previously opened the tournament with a 2-1 victory (21:18, 18:21, 17:15) against Poland’s Piotr Kantor and Filip Lewandrowski, who advanced through qualification.
The main tournament features 24 teams divided into six pools, battling for 18 spots in the elimination round. Pool winners automatically advance to the second round of the playoffs, giving Pļaviņš and Fokerots a favorable position as they continue their run in the competition.
