The State Police College team emerged victorious at the Latvian State Police volleyball championship held Friday, March 13, in Riga.
The competition, hosted at the Ministry of Interior’s Health and Sports Center, drew seven teams representing various regional divisions of the State Police. The tournament win underscores the importance of physical fitness and camaraderie within the Latvian law enforcement community.
Teams were divided into two groups based on their performance in the previous year’s competition:
- Group “A” consisted of the Kurzeme Region Administration, the State Police College, and the Latgale Region Administration.
- Group “B” included the Central Apparatus team, the Vidzeme Region Administration, the Riga Region Administration, and the Zemgale Region Administration.
The tournament format advanced the top two teams from each group to the semi-final round. In the first semi-final match, the Latgale Region Administration defeated the Vidzeme Region Administration 2-0, securing their place in the final. The State Police College team followed suit, defeating the Central Apparatus team 2-0 in the second semi-final.
The match for third place saw the Vidzeme Region Administration defeat the Central Apparatus team 2-0.
In the final match, the State Police College team defeated the Latgale Region Administration in two straight sets, 2-0, claiming the 2026 State Police volleyball championship title.
Awards were presented to the winning teams by Dmitrijs Homenko, director of the State Police College, Aivars Siļutins, manager of the “Robežsardze-RSU” team, and Arnis Bergmanis, coordinator of referees for all competitions at the Latvian Volleyball Federation.
Final Team Standings:
1st place – State Police College;
2nd place – Latgale Region Administration;
3rd place – Vidzeme Region Administration;
4th place – Central Apparatus;
5th place – Riga Region Administration;
6th place – Kurzeme Region Administration;
7th place – Zemgale Region Administration.
