+++ Die Parlamentswahl im Libanon wird verschoben.

Lebanese lawmakers have voted to extend the current legislative period by two years due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, according to the state news agency NNA. The decision was supported by the 13 Hezbollah members of parliament. Human Rights Watch has accused the Israeli military of unlawfully using white phosphorus during attacks in southern Lebanon on March 3. The organization stated the munitions were deployed over residential areas in Johmor, citing verified images. While the use of white phosphorus is banned as a chemical weapon under international law, it is permitted in certain circumstances, such as for illuminating battlefields or creating smoke screens. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is calling for a fundamental change in European foreign policy in light of the evolving international situation. Speaking to EU ambassadors in Brussels, von der Leyen stated that Europe can no longer be a guardian of the old world order, as that era is over. While reaffirming commitment to the rule-based order, she emphasized the need for the EU to be prepared to use its power – “whether economic or diplomatic, technological or military” – more assertively. Regarding the legitimacy of the conflict involving Iran, von der Leyen acknowledged differing views, but stressed the importance of “facing reality and seeing the world as it is today.”
