Danish toy manufacturer LEGO is increasingly recognized for its ability to transform plastic building blocks into intricate works of art, capable of recreating a wide range of subjects – from everyday objects to complex devices. The company’s popular collaborations with franchises like Star Wars, Marvel and Harry Potter have cemented its success.
LEGO’s reach extends beyond toys, into the realms of cinema and video games. Its latest creation, a LEGO set modeled after the Game Boy, has garnered a 4.8-star rating from over 2,500 reviews and is available for just over 50 euros on Amazon. Many users have utilized the set to recreate the original hardware.
The popularity of the Game Boy kit has prompted LEGO to develop a new collaboration centered around another iconic console: the original PlayStation. This serves as a tribute to a console that defined a golden era for Sony and resonated with an entire generation of gamers.
While LEGO has not yet made an official announcement, details regarding the piece count and anticipated price have surfaced.
LEGO is preparing a PlayStation 1 set: price, number of pieces, and availability
According to information shared on the Instagram account lego_minecraft_goat, LEGO is preparing a new set to recreate the legendary PlayStation console, the first released by the manufacturer and a turning point in the world of video games.
The new kit will consist of 1911 pieces, nearly five times the number of pieces found in last year’s Game Boy kit. This increased piece count reflects not only the larger size of the original PlayStation but also the inclusion of a recreation of the original controller, another iconic element of the console that served as the foundation for modern controllers.
The kit, which will be known as PlayStation 1 72306, is expected to launch towards the end of the year, coinciding with the holiday season. Following the leak of this new set, an official confirmation from the Danish company is likely, similar to what occurred with the Game Boy kit. This announcement will reveal the exact market availability date.
The price is expected to be higher than the Nintendo console, reaching 159.99 euros in Europe, and the equivalent amount in dollars for the United States.
Will the Xbox get its own LEGO kit?
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the launch of Microsoft’s first console, the Xbox. Could we see a LEGO set of the Xbox? A set based on the Xbox would arguably be more timely than a PlayStation set, as Sony celebrated the 30th anniversary of the original PlayStation several years ago, and there are no significant milestones for the console in 2026.
