Lenovo Legion Go Gen 2 Debuts with AMD Ryzen Z2 and OLED Display Amid Pricing Concerns
Lenovo has unveiled the Legion Go Gen 2, a flagship handheld gaming PC that brings a significant hardware overhaul to the portable gaming market. Whereas the device introduces high-end specifications, including the AMD Ryzen Z2 processor and a vibrant OLED panel, the launch is accompanied by a significant price shock, with reports indicating that the cost has nearly doubled compared to the original model.

The most notable upgrade is the 8.8-inch display. Moving away from the IPS panel used in the first generation, the Gen 2 features a colorful OLED screen equipped with HDR TrueBlack 1000 for superior black levels and color production. Interestingly, Lenovo has adjusted the resolution from the original 2,560 by 1,600 pixels down to 1,920 by 1,200. The display supports a variable refresh rate of up to 144Hz, though it can reach a maximum of 240Hz.
Under the hood, the handheld is powered by the AMD Ryzen Z2 processor, designed to maintain the device’s status as a “full-fat” PC gaming handheld. To complement the internal power, Lenovo has redesigned the detachable Legion Truestrike controllers. The updated controllers feature smoother lines, a more comfortable ergonomic feel, and a smarter button layout to improve the overall user experience.
This release marks the latest step in Lenovo’s aggressive expansion into the handheld sector. Following the original Legion Go released in 2023 and the subsequent, simplified Legion Go S and its SteamOS edition, the Gen 2 represents the company’s heavy-hitting sequel. This strategic pivot toward higher-end hardware and a premium price point highlights the intensifying competition among major players like Asus and MSI.
The shift toward OLED technology and the Ryzen Z2 platform signals a broader industry trend of prioritizing visual fidelity and raw performance to justify the positioning of handheld PCs as primary gaming machines rather than mere accessories.
