A sense of bewilderment is reportedly growing within Levski Sofia’s camp regarding the fan reaction to Asen Mitkov. Along with Svetlio Vutsov, he is one of only two academy players currently featuring regularly in the first team, and coaches believe the criticism directed at him is wholly unacceptable, according to reports from “Match Telegraph.”
The coaching staff were particularly surprised during the match against Lokomotiv Plovdiv, when Mitkov was booed as he entered the game as a substitute, despite having started and played well. He even faced jeers from the stands during his time on the pitch, which is clearly impacting his performance. Mitkov initially drew the ire of Levski supporters earlier in the season during a tough match against Slavia Sofia at “Ovcha Kupel.” He was deemed responsible for the opening goal in a surprising 0-2 defeat.
Despite his inconsistent form, head coach Julio Velazquez remains a strong advocate for the midfielder and has ruled out any possibility of a loan or sale. The Spanish manager believes that players developed within the club’s youth system should receive the greatest support from the fans, as is customary in leading European leagues.
It’s worth noting that Asen Mitkov isn’t a lifelong Levski academy product. He began his career with the youth setup at Botev Plovdiv before transferring to Levski. His current contract with the club runs until the finish of next season.
