Levski Transfer Doubt: Itou Injury Threatens Deal

Levski Sofia’s potential transfer for Lokomotiv Plovdiv midfielder Catalin Itu is in doubt as the winter transfer window nears its close. The player’s health is now a significant concern, casting uncertainty over a possible move to the capital club.

The Romanian footballer was ruled out of Lokomotiv Plovdiv’s Bulgarian Cup derby against Botev Plovdiv after medical examinations revealed a partial hamstring tear. The injury effectively prevents an immediate transfer to Levski, as the club is seeking players who are immediately available, rather than those requiring a recovery period.

Despite the setback, sources indicate that both Lokomotiv Plovdiv and Itu himself are still keen on the deal progressing. Levski manager Julio Velazquez views Itu as a versatile option, capable of playing on the right wing or as an attacking midfielder.

Time is of the essence, however. The winter transfer window in Bulgaria closes on February 24, after which clubs will only be able to sign free agents – an option Levski has reportedly ruled out.

Recent losses to Ludogorets have highlighted a lack of depth in the Levski squad. Expectations for some of the new signings have yet to be met, with Rildo losing the trust of the coaching staff, though a departure is unlikely until the summer. Fabien is also still adapting and has yet to make a significant impact on the team’s performance.

This situation leaves the Levski management and coaching staff with a demanding decision: whether to take a risk on an injured player or seek alternatives in the remaining days of the transfer window, according to “Match Telegraph.”
