The Metropolitan Municipality of Lima has completed a major overhaul of Alipio Ponce Avenue, a key thoroughfare connecting the districts of Chorrillos and San Juan de Miraflores. The renovation, which cost approximately $2.2 million, aims to improve traffic flow and pedestrian access in southern Lima, benefiting more than one million residents who use the road daily.
Lima’s Mayor, Renzo Reggiardo, delivered the completed project, emphasizing that the rehabilitation will reclaim public spaces and streamline traffic along a vital city artery. The project is intended to strengthen connectivity and optimize transportation along this urban corridor.

The work encompassed the rehabilitation of 1.79 kilometers of roadway, stretching from Guardia Civil Avenue to the Eucaliptos Oval. The project included milling the existing pavement and applying new asphalt across more than 24,600 square meters. Deep patching was as well performed in critical areas, along with leveling manholes and installing speed bumps to enhance road safety.
New horizontal and vertical signage was also implemented, creating a more orderly flow of traffic for both drivers and pedestrians on this important southern Lima connection.
The project also incorporated complementary improvements focused on more inclusive mobility. A bike lane was added along the renovated stretch, encouraging the use of alternative transportation.

Project Includes Bike Lane, Green Spaces, and Road Markings
In addition to the pavement improvements, the project included additional work aimed at more inclusive mobility. Sidewalks, curbs, and berms were repaired, and bus stops were painted to organize passenger boarding and disembarking. These improvements are designed to facilitate pedestrian traffic and enhance safety in the area.
As part of the urban component, new green spaces were implemented, with the planting of ornamental species and trees along the central median. This adds an ecological element to Alipio Ponce Avenue, improving the environment and public space for residents of Chorrillos and San Juan de Miraflores.
