A Lithuanian bar is seeking the public’s support in identifying individuals suspected of stealing a vintage telephone and a hand-crafted tambourine. The incident, which occurred at “Kostmosas” bar, prompted a social media post seeking assistance, but was later removed after the items were promised to be returned.
According to bar representatives, the stolen items – an Ericsson telephone and a tambourine brought by an artist from India – hold significant sentimental value. The telephone, acquired from an antique shop, had been on display in the bar for nearly 25 years. The tambourine was temporarily being held for the artist while they were away.
“We were very happy to acquire our computer back last Thursday, but we are saddened by the loss of items that we valued even more than the fun,” a statement from the bar read. “Three young people appropriated an antique Ericsson telephone and a hand-made tambourine left by an artist from India.”
Bar officials stated the thieves may have underestimated the value of the items, which they estimate to be worth more than 250 euros. They emphasized that the bar has a history of publicly addressing incidents to deter future wrongdoing. The case highlights the bar’s commitment to accountability and community involvement.
“We have been working on this principle for many years, which is why we have had almost no fights, thefts, or other criminal acts in our home for the past 8-9 years. Everything that happened – we publicized ourselves,” the bar said in a statement.
The bar initially posted images from its security cameras on social media, asking anyone who recognized the individuals to come forward. However, the post was removed after the suspects agreed to return the stolen goods and offer an apology.
“The girl apologized, we came to a good agreement with her, we don’t want to quarrel. When people apologize and compensate for the damage, we have a practice of deleting posts. Our goal is to find the items, not to make advertising out of it,” a bar representative told local media.
The representative also confirmed that the individuals involved are known within the entertainment industry, but declined to provide further details. They also noted that a previous theft, involving a computer, was not resolved through similar means, and the related post remains online.
The bar has contacted the manager of the musician involved, but received no comment. “I don’t know or heard anything about it,” the manager said.
Due to a higher incidence of such incidents in Vilnius, the bar plans to install additional security cameras to enhance safety.
