Spanish duo ‘Los Gemeliers’—Daniel and Jesús Oviedo—are recovering at home after a violent attack on Friday that required hospitalization at the Gregorio Marañón hospital in Madrid. The artists, along with their partners and a group of friends, were reportedly attacked as they left a Madrid nightclub by a large group of people.
On Sunday, the brothers’ older brother, Juan Carlos, appeared on the television program ‘Fiesta’ to discuss their condition and the details of the assault. “They weren’t involved in a fight; they were simply enjoying their birthday with friends and partners,” he explained.
According to Oviedo, the attackers “were waiting for them, calling them by name and using homophobic insults. They were looking for them and came prepared with a weapon” – pepper spray, which they used, causing the brothers to experience itching and vision problems.
Police were able to quickly identify the attackers thanks to security camera footage. They had been inside the club and came outside as the brothers were leaving. “Jesús was already in the taxi. First, they went after their friends, then they grabbed Jesús’s girlfriend, and finally, they sprayed everyone with pepper spray. The images I’ve seen are very shocking,” Oviedo lamented.
Journalist Jorge Moreno, who first reported the story, obtained a police report detailing the abuse suffered by Jesús’s girlfriend. “She was on the ground receiving kicks, and one attacker said, ‘Bitch, we’re going to kill you.’ She was so scared she urinated herself,” he stated.

Juan Carlos expressed his frustration with the challenges faced by public figures. “People think they have the right to say anything to them, but this isn’t the first time they’ve suffered homophobic or other insults. It’s something no one talks about because you accept it with fame, just like the photos and hugs, which are positive and wonderful,” he said. This incident underscores the vulnerability celebrities face and the ongoing issue of hate speech.
