The forward previously suffered a serious knee injury that required surgery and sidelined him for the remainder of the season. The injury occurred in March following a fall on the synthetic turf at Allianz Parque.
Since then, the player had been dealing with recurring pain until the decision to undergo the procedure. Late in the year, São Paulo faced a wave of injuries within the squad, with Lucas among the key players unavailable.
Another player topping the list of absentees was midfielder Oscar. The former number 8 is likely to retire after a series of injuries and a health scare at the Barra Funda training center in late 2024, when he fainted during a pre-season medical examination.
