Brasília – The Supreme Federal Court authorized the release of confidential information pertaining to Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, the son of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, as part of an investigation into alleged fraud within the social security system. The decision, made by Justice André Mendonça, comes as a parliamentary inquiry into the matter is underway.

According to reports, the authorization granted access to Fábio Luís Lula da Silva’s phone records, bank statements and digital data. The request for the release of these records was initially made by the Federal Police in January 2026 and approved by Mendonça in February. This move precedes a vote by the parliamentary inquiry to also access the son’s banking information.

President Lula reportedly expressed surprise upon learning of the decision, seeking clarification from advisors and speaking directly with his son, who currently resides in Spain. Sources within the presidential palace indicate Lula questioned the necessity of the action, given his son’s willingness to cooperate with the investigation. He then advised his son to continue providing information to the court.

The investigation centers around allegations that Fábio Luís Lula da Silva may have been a silent partner to Antônio Camilo Antunes, known as “Careca do INSS,” who is considered a key figure in the alleged scheme. Investigators have indicated that references to Fábio Luís surfaced through third parties, but have not yet established direct evidence of his involvement. The connection between Lula’s son and Antunes reportedly involves businesswoman Roberta Luchsinger, who was subject to a search and seizure operation as part of the investigation.

The case highlights the scrutiny facing the Lula administration and its associates amid ongoing investigations into potential wrongdoing. Rui Costa, a key figure within the administration, indicated a wait-and-see approach, stating, “Let’s wait for the result of the VAR,” a reference to video assistant refereeing in soccer, suggesting a need to review the situation carefully. The president of the parliamentary inquiry commission asserted the legitimacy of the vote to release the information, according to G1.

Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, through allies, has indicated a willingness to travel to Brazil to provide testimony if necessary.
