Macron Condemns ‘Unacceptable Attack’ on UN Position in Lebanon

French President Emmanuel Macron strongly condemned an attack on a United Nations peacekeeping force position in southern Lebanon on Friday, March 6, 2026. The incident raises concerns about escalating instability in the region.

In a post on X, Macron wrote: “As the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon [UNIFIL] plays a key stabilizing role in southern Lebanon, I strongly condemn the unacceptable attack that hit members of its contingent today. France will remain committed there.

Macron stated he spoke with Syrian President Ahmed Al-Charaa and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. “France is working with its partners to prevent the conflict from spreading further in the region. The sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and Lebanon, like that of every country in the region, must be respected. The ongoing destabilizations cannot leave any room for terrorism. France will ensure this.

The headquarters of the Ghanaian battalion of UNIFIL was targeted by two rocket attacks in the late afternoon. “Two soldiers are seriously injured, while another is in shock. The officers’ mess was also hit and was completely destroyed by the flames,” the Ghanaian army said in a statement posted on X.
