A serious traffic collision in the Madona region of Latvia on Saturday resulted in three fatalities. The crash involved a BMW and a Toyota Hilux, and authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to early reports, two people died at the scene of the crash, which occurred on the P62 Krāslava-Preiļi-Madona road near the village of Prauliena. A third individual was transported to a local medical facility, where they later succumbed to their injuries.
Witnesses reported that the BMW was occupied by two young people, while the Toyota Hilux was driven by a single person.
Emergency medical services and the State Fire and Rescue Service were dispatched to the location following the collision.
Preliminary information suggests the BMW may have been traveling at a high rate of speed. Witnesses indicated a speedometer reading of approximately 180 km/h after the crash, potentially indicating a significant breach of the posted speed limit. However, officials have stated that the precise details of the incident are still under investigation.
