Divisions Emerge Within MAGA Movement Following Strikes in Iran.
Recent strikes in Iran, reportedly eliminating top leaders including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and key military figures, appear to be a tactical success for the United States, and Israel. However, the operation is sparking dissent within the former president’s base of support.
The strikes are prompting a reevaluation of Donald Trump’s “America First” policy, a central tenet of his presidential campaigns. Trump had pledged to end costly foreign interventions and position himself as a “peace president.”
The shift in foreign policy is creating fractures within the MAGA movement, raising questions about the future direction of the political force.
Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, a prominent voice within the MAGA movement, has voiced strong opposition.
“We voted for ‘America First’ and zero wars,” Greene wrote on X, calling the Trump administration “a bunch of sick f***ing liars.”
Greene, previously a staunch supporter of Trump, has been in open conflict with the former president since the fall.
Trump has reportedly responded by calling her “Marjorie Traitor Greene.”
“Appalling”
Greene is not the only influential conservative voice criticizing Trump following the strikes in Iran.
Tucker Carlson, a prominent figure on the American right, strongly condemned the attacks in an interview with ABC News journalist Jonathan Karl on Saturday.
“It’s absolutely appalling and malicious,” Carlson said of the Iran strikes.
Carlson reportedly met with Trump at the White House last week and urged him not to attack Iran. Karl noted that the strikes are dividing the MAGA movement in the United States.
Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones also warned, according to Rolling Stone, that the attacks could build the U.S. More vulnerable to terrorism.
Backtracks on Promises
Hilmar Mjelde is an expert on the United States and a professor of political science at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. He believes the strikes are a clear attempt to demonstrate U.S. Military power.
– Trump has always been very focused on showing American strength, and he equates that with using overwhelming military force abroad, Mjelde wrote in an email on Saturday afternoon.
He points out that Trump previously promised not to involve the U.S. In further wars.
– Trump is going back on his word when he launches another war. At the same time, a new regime in Iran would be in the U.S. Interest, which is what he as president should be working towards.
