Novak Djokovic advanced to the second round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells on Saturday, overcoming a strong challenge from Kamil Majchrzak in a thrilling three-set match. The Serbian star ultimately prevailed with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 victory, marking the first career meeting between the two players.
Majchrzak started strong, immediately breaking Djokovic’s serve in the opening game. The Polish player continued his impressive form, securing a second break to take a commanding 4-1 lead in the first set. Despite a late rally from the world number three, Majchrzak closed out the set 6-4.
The second set saw a dramatic shift in momentum as Djokovic took complete control. He quickly raced to a 5-0 lead with two breaks of serve, dominating the court and dictating play. Djokovic then secured the set 6-1, leveling the match.
The deciding set began with both players holding serve through the first four games. However, Djokovic broke Majchrzak’s serve at 2-2, gaining a crucial advantage and moving ahead to 4-2.
Djokovic continued to press, breaking Majchrzak once more before closing out the set 6-2 and securing the win. Despite the loss, Majchrzak showcased a strong performance against one of the sport’s all-time greats.
