Sous un beau soleil printanier, le Mammobile a posé ses roues cette semaine sur le parking de la salle du lac à Castanet-Tolosan.
A mobile mammography unit recently brought crucial breast cancer screening services to Castanet-Tolosan, France, providing access to preventative care for women in the region. The Mammobile screened approximately 60 women each day during its visit, creating a professional yet welcoming environment.
The primary goal of the Mammobile is to improve access to breast cancer screenings, particularly for women living in rural or isolated areas. This represents a significant issue, as obtaining a mammography appointment can often involve lengthy waits – sometimes months or even a year – which can be a major deterrent, alongside fear or anxiety about the procedure itself.
Currently, there is only one Mammobile operating in the Occitanie region of France, making each deployment particularly valuable. The mobile unit is staffed by a dedicated team of three: Mélina, the secretary. Valérie, a radiology technician; and Cédric, the driver. A doctor or midwife also rotates through to finalize screenings.
Women arriving for appointments were first greeted by Samuel and Stéphanie from the CRCDC, before connecting with Fabienne and Laura from CPTS Portes du Lauragais. They were offered refreshments and information about resources for smoking cessation and access to healthcare. Liberal nurses, including Mélissa Virin and Purday Dhollande, were also on hand to provide reassurance, answer questions and offer support.
Attendees learned about the Mammobile’s visit through social media, messages from the CPAM (French health insurance fund), or word of mouth. Many expressed relief and gratitude for Valérie’s expertise after their screenings.
This preventative initiative serves as an key reminder: one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during her lifetime. Early detection significantly improves the chances of successful treatment. In Castanet-Tolosan, the Mammobile once again delivered on its promise of bringing preventative care to those who need it.
The Mammobile visited Castanet-Tolosan on February 23 and 24, 2026, offering free and rapid breast cancer screenings at the Salle du Lac, Boulevard des Campanhols, 31320 Castanet-Tolosan. Appointments could be scheduled by calling 05 32 74 14 43 or through Doctolib. More information about the Mammobile’s schedule and services can be found on the Castanet-Tolosan city website, and a recent post about the event is available on the Ville de Castanet-Tolosan Facebook page.
