Oravská priehrada, Slovakia – The search for a man who disappeared shortly after Christmas ended tragically with the discovery of his body in the Oravská priehrada reservoir on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. The discovery brings a somber conclusion to a nearly three-month investigation that captivated the Orava region.

Marek Osadský, 48, of Dlhá nad Orava, was last seen on December 28, 2025, after boarding a bus in his hometown. According to police reports, he disembarked in Tvrdošín and then continued to Námestovo. His movements were tracked via security camera footage, which showed him heading in the direction of the Oravská priehrada, but his trail went cold after that. The case highlights the challenges of locating missing persons in remote areas.

“We provided sonar technology and used a boat to scan the water surface near the bridge,” stated the Orava Rescue System. “During the search, the river police were able to locate a body, unfortunately without signs of life.”

Authorities launched an extensive search operation following Osadský’s disappearance, involving police, rescue teams, volunteer firefighters, and local volunteers. The Orava Rescue System shared camera footage of Osadský’s last known movements in an effort to gather information from the public. Despite these efforts, the search yielded no results until Tuesday’s grim discovery.

Osadský had reportedly left home for a walk on December 28, 2025, and did not return. He did not capture his mobile phone with him. Police had been reviewing camera footage in Námestovo to determine his movements after arriving in the town.

The Orava Rescue System expressed condolences to Osadský’s family and loved ones, acknowledging the profound impact of the tragedy. The move underscores the emotional toll missing persons cases take on communities.
