Manchester United‘s struggles continued on Tuesday,as a late goal from Soungoutou Magassa secured a 1-1 draw for West Ham at Old Trafford. The result intensifies scrutiny on manager Ruben Amorim and the club’s overall performance, currently sitting in 8th place in the Premier League standings; a result that drew visible frustration from club legends and supporters alike.

MANCHESTER UNITED – WEST HAM 1–1:

Diogo Dalot put the hosts ahead just past the hour mark, but a late goal from Soungoutou Magassa denied Manchester United a much-needed victory against West Ham on December 4th.

The result leaves Manchester United struggling in the Premier League table and facing continued scrutiny.

For f***’s sake,” wrote club legend Rio Ferdinand on X.

Ruben Amorim will be furious,” said Gary Neville on Sky Sports.

The level of performance from Man United in recent weeks has been pathetic. They were scared to get the job done,” Roy Keane added on Sky Sports.

Amorim echoed that frustration after the match, as Neville predicted.

We should have closed out the game with the ball. The match was there for the taking,” he told BBC.

Following the final whistle, Viaplay commentators reported that boos rang out from the United supporters at Old Trafford.

It shouldn’t be like that. You fight for 60 minutes to score a goal, and when you finally do, you should continue to do the same things, even more controlled, with longer possession, so we can be dominant,” said Dalot.

– JI think it’s more our fault than West Ham’s credit,” he continued.

Sharp Criticism

Manchester United endured a frustrating first half, drawing criticism from pundits for a lack of intensity.

“There’s no tempo to this game, no intensity, and that suits West Ham,” Neville observed midway through the first half.

The 50-year-old enjoyed a decorated career with United, playing for the club from 1992 to 2011.

Now a frequent analyst, Neville didn’t hold back on his assessment of the team’s performance.

“Why are you going to rush when you have pretty good control? West Ham don’t have the ball all the time, but nothing is happening against them. It’s up to the home side to inject something into this game,” he added.

Improved After the Break

Neville’s assessment was echoed by BBC’s football editor, Simon Stone.

“Against Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, and Everton, Manchester United had the chance to make a significant leap up the Premier League table. They failed on each occasion. Will the same thing happen today?” he questioned.

“Ruben Amorim says they are a long way from where they should be. So far, this is an example of why,” Stone added.

United gained more control of the match as the first half progressed, but were unable to break the deadlock before the interval.

“Manchester United are knocking on the door here. Strongly,” Neville commented.

Ruben Amorim’s side came into the match off the back of a 2-1 win away at Crystal Palace, but had gone three games without a victory prior to that.

Through their first 13 league games, “the Red Devils” have only won six, leaving them down in 8th place in the Premier League standings.

West Ham, currently in the relegation zone with just 12 points, also aren’t presenting a formidable challenge.
