Marc Marquez’s hopes for a strong showing at the MotoGP Thailand 2026 race were dashed on Sunday after a tire failure forced his retirement late in the grand prix. The Ducati rider was unable to finish the race after experiencing a rear tire issue.
Marquez started the race at the Buriram Circuit from the second position, but struggled to maintain his place against the competition. Instead of challenging polesitter Marco Bezzecchi, he found himself battling to hold onto position.

Earlier in the race, Marquez was locked in a tight battle with Jorge Martin and Pedro Acosta for third place. He eventually settled into fourth position, but his race took a dramatic turn in the closing laps.
With approximately six laps remaining, Marquez suddenly ran wide, slowed considerably, and was forced to pull off the track. A puncture in his rear tire, and subsequent damage to the wheel, ended his race prematurely.
Marquez ultimately secured nine points from the Thailand round, following a second-place finish in Saturday’s sprint race. Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi dominated the grand prix, taking the victory. Pedro Acosta (KTM) and Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse) completed the podium.
The MotoGP 2026 season continues in three weeks, with the Brazilian Grand Prix scheduled for March 20-22.
