A free public lecture on colorectal cancer awareness and prevention will be held on March 25th, hosted by AMESC. The event aims to educate the community about the importance of early diagnosis and preventative care for this common, yet often treatable, disease.
The lecture will feature Dr. Humberto Marten Teixeira, a coloproctologist practicing in Criciúma and head of the colorectal surgery clinic at Unacon of Hospital São José, as well as a representative of the Catarinense Society of Coloproctology. Also presenting will be Dr. Gabriele L. Braz, president of the Catarinense Society of Gastroenterology and a professor of medicine at Unesc. Dr. Braz is also a member of the Brazilian Federation of Gastroenterology.

The event is part of the national “Março Azul” (Blue March) campaign, a month-long initiative dedicated to raising awareness about colorectal cancer. Early detection is crucial for successful treatment of this frequently diagnosed malignancy.
Alex Bianchin, president of AMESC and mayor of São João do Sul, encouraged community members to attend. “It is important that we equip ourselves with knowledge and this will be an open and free event to discuss prevention,” Bianchin said. The lecture will be held at the AMESC auditorium at 7:00 PM on March 25th, and is open to all who wish to learn more about protecting their health.
