Norwegian Royal’s Son Faces Extensive Criminal Trial

Marius Borg Høiby, the 29-year-old son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, is currently on trial facing 38 criminal counts, including rape and domestic violence. The high-profile case has captivated Norway and drawn international attention to the family.

Høiby’s trial, which began in early March 2026, is expected to last until March 13, 2026, at Oslo Prison, where he is currently being held. According to reports, six additional charges were added mid-February, encompassing one count of drug possession, three counts of speeding on a motorcycle and two counts of violating a restraining order, with one more count added in early March.

Born on January 13, 1997, in Oslo, Høiby is the son of Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby and Morten Borg. His mother became Crown Princess when she married Crown Prince Haakon. Despite his connection to the royal family, it has been noted that Marius Borg Høiby is not royal himself.

During the trial, Høiby admitted to attempting to strangle a victim, and a journalist was reportedly removed from the courtroom following the admission. Disturbing drawings attributed to Høiby have also been revealed as evidence in the case.

The case has sparked significant media coverage, with reports indicating that Høiby has begun to garner some sympathy despite the severity of the allegations. The unfolding legal drama continues to be a major story in Norwegian media and beyond, highlighting the complexities of celebrity and accountability.
