Norway’s Crown Princess’s Son Faces New Charges in Rape Case
Oslo, Norway – Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, is facing additional charges, including a “serious narcotics offense,” as his trial on accusations of raping four women continues. The case has captivated Norway and drawn international attention to the country’s royal family.
Prosecutors announced Monday, February 8, 2026, that the indictment against Høiby, 29, now includes six counts, according to reports. In addition to the original charges of four rapes and 28 other crimes – including acts of violence against former girlfriends – he is now accused of possessing 3.5 kilograms of marijuana. Høiby has admitted to the narcotics offense.
The additional charges also include two counts of violating a restraining order and three traffic violations related to speeding on a motorcycle. The Oslo district court will consider the expanded indictment during the main hearing, which began on February 3, 2026, and is expected to last until March 13, 2026.
Høiby was initially arrested on August 4, 2024, suspected of assaulting his then-girlfriend. Even as he denies the most serious allegations of rape and domestic violence, his lawyer, Petar Sekulic, stated last year that Høiby intends to plead guilty to some of the lesser charges.
In a statement released after his arrest, Høiby acknowledged acting “under the influence of alcohol and cocaine after an argument,” and attributed his actions to “mental troubles” and a long-standing struggle with substance abuse.
During court proceedings on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, a woman accusing Høiby of rape described the alleged incident as her “greatest nightmare.” According to reports from Norwegian media, she stated, “I remember waking up, a little in shock, and not expecting it at all. It was as if I stepped outside of myself. And when I came to my senses, it was over.” When asked to elaborate on feeling “outside of herself,” she explained, “You’re not there, it’s as if you just disappear. Your brain is probably trying to protect you in some way, I don’t know.” She also testified that the alleged rape was painful.
The woman also recounted that she had engaged in consensual sexual activity with Høiby on several occasions prior to the alleged assault while she was sleeping. This case, along with the other accusations against Høiby, has brought scrutiny to the Norwegian royal family, particularly given his mother’s prominent position as Crown Princess.
Høiby’s lawyer, Ellen Holager Andenaes, told Norwegian news agency NTB that her client transported marijuana “from A to B without earning a penny.”
The arrest and subsequent charges against the Crown Princess’s son have sparked public debate in Norway and raised questions about the potential impact on the monarchy’s reputation. The unfolding legal proceedings are likely to continue to generate significant media coverage both domestically and internationally.
