Son of Norwegian Crown Princess on Trial Amidst Serious Allegations
Oslo, Norway – The son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Marius Borg Høiby, is currently on trial facing 38 criminal counts, including rape and domestic violence, in a case that has gripped the nation and drawn international attention. The trial, which began on February 3, 2026, is expected to last until March 19, 2026, and is considered the biggest scandal in the 120-year history of the Norwegian monarchy.
Borg Høiby, 29, has pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include allegations of raping four women and filming some of the assaults. He admitted to acting “under the influence of alcohol and cocaine after an argument,” and acknowledged struggling with substance abuse, but has denied a second count of rape during the proceedings, according to reports from TF1 Info.
Born on January 13, 1997, Borg Høiby is the eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Morten Borg, a convicted cocaine trafficker. He is not a member of the royal family and holds no official position, as he was born before his mother’s marriage to Crown Prince Haakon. Wikipedia details his background and family history.
The investigation into an August 4, 2024, incident involving an alleged assault on his girlfriend led to the uncovering of numerous other offenses, including the alleged rapes. Some of the alleged rapes involved filming the victims while they were asleep or intoxicated. As reported by the New York Times, Borg Høiby is currently being held at Oslo Prison.
Historian Trond Noren Isaksen described the case as unprecedented for the Norwegian monarchy, stating, “When it comes to the Norwegian royal family, It’s without a doubt the biggest scandal.” CBS News also reported on the historical significance of the trial.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit has visited her son in prison, as Gala reported, though details of the visit have not been released.
