Mary Cosby Mourns Son Robert Cosby Jr.’s Death at 23

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby is mourning the loss of her son, Robert Cosby Jr., following his tragic death.

“I’m gonna miss you, Babes,” Mary, 53, wrote on Instagram on Saturday, February 28, sharing an older photo of the mother-son duo.

The Bravo personality added the hashtags “God First,” “Love,” and “Forever,” and reposted a cover of Jessica Mauboy’s “Never Be the Same.”

Us Weekly confirmed earlier this week that Robert died from a suspected overdose on Monday, February 23. He was 23 years old.

Mary, who shared her only child with her husband, Robert Cosby Sr., said in a statement at the time, “Our beloved son Robert Jr. Was called home to the Lord.” “While our hearts are broken, we are comforted in God’s promises and knowing he is finally at peace. We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow.”

A cause of death has not been publicly released.

As Mary grieves her loss, many of her fellow Housewives have rallied around her, offering their condolences.

“Beautiful picture Mary. You are an amazing mother and gave him so much love,” The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards wrote in an Instagram comment on Saturday. “May his memory be a blessing.”

Chanel Ayan added: “He looks just like you. You will see so much of him within you. He will be with you forever. I love you Mary, and God has found him.”

Heather Dubrow, Candy Burruss, Whitney Rose, Lisa Barlow, Cynthia Bailey, Gretchen Rossi, Sherry Whitfield, Candice Dillard Bassett, Crystal Kung Minkoff and Shereé Whitfield also expressed their deepest sympathies to the Cosby family.

“Sending you prayers and so much love and hugs,” The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Whitfield, 43, replied.

RHOA personality Porsha “Porsha” Williams also offered a heartfelt tribute.

“It’s amazing how a certain picture can remain your favorite because of the context… whatever you were saying or doing when the picture was taken, it comes rushing back immediately when you glance at the photo,” Williams, 49, commented on Saturday. “Praying that great memories will retain your spirit lifted.”

Bravo producer Andy Cohen shared his emotional message to Mary and her family earlier this week.

“I wish to send all my love and deepest condolences to Mary Cosby and her family after the tragic news yesterday of the passing of Mary’s son, Robert Jr.,” Cohen, 57, said during his Thursday, February 26 broadcast of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. “My heart is broken for Mary. I will always cherish getting a minor window into the unconditional love between Mary and Robert Jr.”

Throughout Mary’s time on RHOSLC, she and Robert Jr. Were open about his struggles with substance abuse.

Mary specifically revealed, “It really shocked me.” Us Weekly reported in September 2025 that she first learned of her son’s addiction. “I immediately started to pray for him, because I thought you can’t judge him and his life and his choices. I don’t believe in judging people. I’m not a judge. I don’t like judging people, and I don’t like to do it.”
