Oracle Shifts Focus to Agentic AI Following Mass Layoffs of 30,000 Staff
Oracle has initiated a significant workforce reduction, reportedly cutting 30,000 positions via overnight email notifications, as the technology giant aggressively pivots its investment strategy toward artificial intelligence. This move underscores a broader corporate trend of prioritizing AI automation over traditional human capital.
The scale of the reductions was marked by a sudden and impersonal delivery method. In a wave of terminations, Oracle has begun a new wave of layoffs while simultaneously channeling massive investments into AI development. Many employees were notified of their termination via email as early as 6:00 AM, with some messages bluntly stating, “Today is your last day of work.”
According to reports, approximately 30,000 people may have been terminated overnight to make room for the company’s AI-centric expansion.
This internal restructuring coincides with the launch of several high-tech initiatives. Oracle is introducing the Private Agent Factory, a no-code platform designed to build and manage AI agents using an AI-native database. This is part of a broader push toward “agentic AI,” which aims to bring intelligent autonomy to enterprise applications. The company is also deploying Deep Data Security and an Autonomous AI Vector Database as part of its AI Data Platform, which unifies structured and unstructured data to accelerate the development of AI-powered applications.
The displacement of workers at Oracle reflects a wider volatility in the global tech labor market. Data indicates that artificial intelligence has contributed to the loss of 50,000 engineering jobs in the United States within just a three-month period.
The impact is also being felt in regional corporate hubs. In Romania, the Pipera corporate zone is being described as a victim of these shifting economic dynamics, where employees increasingly feel that no professional role is entirely secure.
