Mathilde Seigner is making her return to television. The 58-year-old actress stars in the upcoming TV movie Au cœur de nos terres, set to premiere on France 2 on March 4. Directed by Didier Le Pêcheur, the film centers on Laure, a saleswoman in the agricultural sector, who is compelled to return to her family farm after her brother suffers a heart attack.

Laure quickly discovers the farm is on the brink of collapse. Her brother’s attempts to diversify have left him deeply in debt. With the facilitate of a former love, she then uncovers a conspiracy aimed at driving farmers in the region into bankruptcy to seize their land.

Mathilde Seigner is a Dedicated Viewer

On Wednesday, February 25, Mathilde Seigner appeared on the program C à vous on France 5. Facing Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine, she first revealed she watches the show “every evening.” She then explained that the subject matter of her film was particularly close to her heart. “The idea was to talk about the agricultural world, which I have supported for a long time,” she stated.

The topic of women in agriculture came to her attention while watching television. “I watch a lot of TV, a lot of France 2 and the ‘Le Feuilleton des Français’ program with Delahousse on Saturdays, at 1:15 PM. There were subjects, notably, on female farmers and all that,” she recalled. She and her partner, Mathieu Petit, then felt there was “really an idea for France Télévisions.”

The Actress Subtly Calls Out France Télévisions

For Mathilde Seigner, proposing a TV movie about agriculture was important for a specific reason. “They have a huge number of crime dramas! It’s not a criticism, but there really are a lot of them. It’s a little jab, a very small one,” she joked. The mother of Louis’s comment prompted laughter from the entire panel on C à vous.

While the commentators on Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine’s show acknowledged that France Télévisions offers “very good crime dramas,” they conceded she had a point. “I thought it was great for France Télévisions. And it’s something we don’t talk about enough, they are similarly in great difficulty,” Seigner concluded. This observation is particularly striking given the ongoing struggles faced by farmers, who remain underrepresented in the media. The actress, a three-time César Award nominee, hopes to contribute to greater visibility for this vital sector. The film arrives as French agriculture continues to be a key topic of national conversation.
