At 29 years old, Shikha Doorvashi Ramjutan launched her own hair care brand, Resèt, designed to stimulate hair regrowth. She represents a new wave of entrepreneurs taking initiative in the beauty and wellness space.

Originally from Rivière-du-Rempart, she is the eldest of three siblings. Her family has a long history in business, and she grew up in an environment that valued entrepreneurial spirit.

Shikha excelled in science, particularly chemistry, during school and chose to continue her education in the United Kingdom. She earned a Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) from King’s College London, followed by completion of her clinical training at the Imperial College NHS Trust Hospital in London.

It was during her studies and hospital training that she developed a strong interest in clinical pharmacy, a field focused on therapeutic decisions and patient care. She rotated through several departments, including emergency medicine, pediatrics, and neurology, where she witnessed the tangible impact healthcare professionals can have on patients’ lives.

Despite her commitment to the medical field, Shikha harbored entrepreneurial ambitions. Initially, she planned to return to Mauritius to open her own pharmacy, which she did in 2019. However, the reality proved more complex than anticipated; she had to retake professional exams, complete internships at various pharmacies, and ultimately joined a large pharmacy chain. While valuable, this experience didn’t provide the fulfillment she sought.

Her path shifted somewhat unexpectedly. While working at a pharmacy awaiting licensing and focused on wellness and beauty products, she began to deepen her knowledge of these products and their formulations. She then decided to share her findings on her educational Instagram page, @themedixpharmacist.

She quickly received numerous questions from followers, particularly regarding hair loss. Shikha noticed these concerns often came from young women in their twenties and thirties, experiencing issues related to stress, hormonal changes, or postpartum recovery. Yet, few products on the market seemed to adequately address their needs.

Recognizing this gap, she decided to create a solution. Leveraging her scientific background, she embarked on extensive research and development, collaborating with laboratories and chemists to formulate effective products. After two years of development, she launched Resèt, a hair care brand that combines traditional Ayurvedic botanical ingredients with research-backed scientific components. The first Resèt product is a revitalizing hair and scalp oil, formulated with eight carefully selected ingredients. These include rosemary extract, pumpkin seed oil, and caffeine to stimulate hair growth, ashwagandha to soothe scalp inflammation, and amla, rich in vitamin C, to add shine and vitality.

The brand also offers a second key product: the Stimulating Scalp Serum, designed to target hair loss. Its formula reduces the hormone linked to hair thinning, prolongs the growth phase of the hair cycle, and improves hair density. Unlike many alternatives on the market, this serum is water-based to better penetrate the scalp and maximize its effectiveness. Understanding the underlying causes of hair loss is crucial for effective treatment, and Resèt aims to address this.

Resèt products are designed for both men and women experiencing hair loss or thinning, as well as anyone looking to improve scalp health. The brand’s approach centers on creating a healthy scalp environment, stimulating growth, and then strengthening existing hair.

International Expansion

Today, Resèt is available online through the brand’s official website and on Amazon in the United Kingdom and the United States. In Mauritius, the products are sold in-store at Audere Beauté, including locations at La Croisette, Tribeca Mall, and Le Caudan. The brand also plans to expand its presence in the European market in the near future.

Among the most rewarding experiences of her journey, Shikha cites the testimonials from customers. One particularly touched her: a patient undergoing chemotherapy who observed denser, more even hair regrowth after a few weeks of using the serum. For the young entrepreneur, these responses are the greatest reward.

Shikha remains active on social media, continuing to educate the public about hair health. She emphasizes the importance of identifying the root causes of hair problems, whether stress, diet, or hormones, before seeking treatment.

The Resèt journey is just beginning. Shikha is currently working on a dietary supplement dedicated to hair health, developed in collaboration with nutritionists, as well as future products like a shampoo and conditioner to offer a complete hair care routine.

To those considering entrepreneurship, particularly in the beauty and health sectors, she recommends taking the time to identify and understand the genuine needs of the market before designing a product.
