MC Alger and head coach Rulani Mokwena have parted ways, the Algerian club announced Saturday.
The Algerian side confirmed in an official statement that the South African coach has activated a clause in his contract allowing him to terminate his duties. The agreement stipulates a payment of two months’ salary to the club upon his departure. The decision followed a meeting between Mokwena and club officials, during which the coach expressed his desire to end his tenure in Algiers.
Mokwena arrived in the summer of 2025 to succeed Khaled Ben Yahia, and ultimately led the team for approximately eight months. Despite a challenging finish, including elimination from the group stage of the CAF Champions League, his time with MC Alger is viewed as largely positive from a sporting perspective.
Under his leadership, the club secured the Algerian Super Cup and maintained the top spot in the league standings for a significant portion of the season. Mokwena oversaw a total of 34 matches, achieving a record of 20 wins, 8 draws, and just 6 losses – a strong showing overall.
The club’s leadership expressed its gratitude to Mokwena and his technical staff for their work during this period, and wished them success in their future endeavors.
According to several reports, Mokwena is poised to join Al‑Ittihad (Libya), where he has been offered an ambitious project and a lucrative contract.
