Dubai, UAE – Daniil Medvedev claimed his second title at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Saturday, after Tallon Griekspoor was forced to withdraw from the final due to injury. The victory marks Medvedev’s second championship in Dubai in four years.
Griekspoor sustained a left hamstring injury during his semifinal match against Andrey Rublev on Friday, and subsequent medical evaluations confirmed he was unable to compete in the final of the 500-level tournament.
“Of course, it’s a pity, but Tallon Griekspoor seemed injured yesterday, and you can’t predict how these injuries will develop overnight,” said Medvedev, who previously won the Dubai title in 2023. “I can’t do anything about it. I played a great tournament in the four matches I played, and I would have liked to play the final, but I’m happy to win the title.”
Medvedev acknowledged the unpredictable nature of tennis, expressing hope to carry the confidence gained from his strong performance this week into the upcoming Indian Wells tournament. The win solidifies Medvedev’s position as a top contender on the ATP tour as the season progresses.
