CicLAvia to Host ‘Stranger Things’ Themed Open Streets Event on Melrose Avenue
Los Angeles will close Melrose Avenue to vehicle traffic on November 23rd for a special CicLAvia event celebrating the upcoming fifth season of Netflix’s Stranger Things, offering a car-free experience and immersive 1980s atmosphere.
The event, dubbed “Netflix x CicLAvia—Melrose Ave: Stranger Things 5 One Last Ride,” will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., encouraging attendees to dress in 80s attire and explore the iconic street. Melrose Avenue is known for its vibrant communities, unique history, fashion, and art, and CicLAvia events aim to highlight these local gems by providing pedestrian and bicycle access. Attendees are encouraged to utilize the CicLAvia Interactive Digital Map to plan their route.
Beyond the Stranger Things theme, the route will showcase numerous local businesses and cultural landmarks, including the Melrose Trading Post, Fairfax High School, the Matrix Theatre, Golden Apple Comics, and Raleigh Studios – a historic film studio dating back to 1915. The event provides a boost to local businesses along the route, increasing foot traffic and visibility. The Ukrainian Culture Center will also be hosting the last day of their Ukrainian Film Festival during the event.
CicLAvia organizers emphasize that the event is not a race, but rather an opportunity to explore the area at a leisurely pace and learn about its history. Officials stated that contributions from the public are vital to continuing these open streets initiatives, and donations are being accepted to support future programs.
