A Milan office building belonging to Intesa Sanpaolo bank will remain closed until Sunday for thorough cleaning and disinfection following confirmed cases of meningococcal meningitis.
Two cases of meningococcal meningitis have been identified within Intesa Sanpaolo’s “Torre Gioia 22” building on Via Melchiorre Gioia in Milan, Italy. A third potential case is currently under investigation. The bank has decided to close the office location until Sunday to allow for comprehensive sanitization procedures.
Bank officials have notified the Milan Health Authority (Ats Milano) to trace and identify close contacts of the infected employees. Those individuals will be offered prophylactic antibiotic treatment as a preventative measure. The Health Authority has initiated standard epidemiological procedures in response to the situation, advising employees to be vigilant for symptoms of the disease.
