Madrid – Mercadona is experiencing high demand for positions at its new logistics center in Villa de Vallecas, Madrid, receiving over 8,000 applications for 400 available jobs. The new facility, known as a “colmena” (hive), is dedicated to fulfilling online orders and reflects the company’s growing investment in e-commerce.

The Spanish supermarket chain began the recruitment process earlier this year, offering both full-time and part-time, indefinite contracts. According to company postings, full-time positions start with a gross monthly salary of €1,734, potentially rising to €2,346, while part-time roles commence at €975 with a potential increase to €1,319. These figures represent a competitive compensation package within the Spanish logistics sector.

The “colmena” will focus on two key roles: order preparers, responsible for selecting and packaging products for online customers, and delivery drivers, who will utilize adapted vans to ensure efficient and safe deliveries. The company emphasizes that all positions are permanent, aligning with its strategy of providing stable employment.

Mercadona plans to open the Villa de Vallecas logistics center this summer. This new location will join the company’s existing network of online fulfillment centers in Getafe, Boadilla del Monte, Valencia, Barcelona, Alicante, and Seville. The expansion underscores Mercadona’s commitment to strengthening its online presence and meeting increasing consumer demand for digital grocery shopping.

Employees at the new facility will also benefit from 37 days of paid vacation annually, a benefit exceeding standard industry practices. Interested candidates can apply directly through Mercadona’s employment portal, searching for opportunities using keywords such as “Colmena Villa de Vallecas” or “Mercadona.”

The surge in applications highlights the appeal of working for a major retailer like Mercadona, known for its employee benefits and stable employment opportunities. This investment in logistics infrastructure is a key component of Mercadona’s broader strategy to compete effectively in the evolving retail landscape.
