Miami International Airport Streamlines Security with New Touchless ID System

Miami International Airport (MIA) has implemented a new touchless identification system for TSA PreCheck passengers, aiming to expedite the security screening process. The system, known as Touchless ID, was launched in partnership with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and participating airlines, according to a TSA announcement on February 10, 2026.

The Touchless ID technology is currently available in the North, Central, and South Terminals at MIA. TSA PreCheck travelers will now be guided by an agent to the appropriate screening lane utilizing the new system. This initiative represents a continued effort to modernize airport security procedures and enhance passenger experience. The Miami Herald reported on the rollout.

The system utilizes facial recognition technology to verify passenger identities without the need for physical document handling. El Nuevo Herald detailed that passengers are directed by an agent to the correct lane for utilizing the Touchless ID.

The implementation of Touchless ID at MIA reflects a broader trend in the aviation industry towards biometric and contactless technologies designed to improve security efficiency and reduce congestion. The move is expected to contribute to smoother passenger flow, particularly during peak travel periods, and could serve as a model for other major airports considering similar upgrades.
