Michael Mittermeier Brings Comedy to Vienna with New Club

German comedian Michael Mittermeier is expanding his comedy empire with the opening of a new club in Vienna, Austria. The “Lucky Punch Comedy Club” will be located in the cellar of the historic Café Prückel on Stubenring, and is slated to open on April 16, 2026.

The venue, which has a capacity of 160 visitors, has a rich history of hosting various artistic performances. From 1931 to 1938, it was home to the Kleinkunstbühne Der Liebe Augustin, providing a platform for artists who had fled Nazi Germany. Later, the Pradler Ritterspiele were active there from 1962 to 1996, followed by various theater and cabaret initiatives. Most recently, the Stella Theater occupied the space until summer 2025.

Mittermeier, who will turn 60 on April 3, expressed his excitement about the new venture. “Wien has given me a stage so often – now I’m giving Vienna one back,” he said in a statement. “This is the city where I play most often during a tour. With my current program (“Flashback”), I’ve played here five times, at the Globe Wien and in the Theater im Park. Now, for my 60th, I’m fulfilling a dream with the club.”

The Lucky Punch Comedy Club, following the success of its original location in Munich which opened in 2023, will focus on showcasing both established comedians and emerging local talent. The lineup is expected to be a surprise for audiences, with mixed shows and open-mic nights planned from Thursday to Saturday. Mittermeier himself intends to perform at the club frequently.

The opening of the club marks a significant addition to Vienna’s vibrant arts scene, offering a new space for comedic performances and solidifying Mittermeier’s connection to the city.
