A new broadcast revisits a novel by contemporary French author and essayist Michel Houellebecq, telling the story of a photographer who incorporates the author himself into his work as he seeks new artistic expression. The program airs in celebration of the author’s 70th birthday: Michel Houellebecq was born on February 26, 1956, in Saint-Pierre, on the French island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean. The broadcast will be available online for eight weeks following its initial air date.

When French novelist, poet and essayist Michel Houellebecq released his fifth novel, Map and Territory, in 2010, he surprised readers and critics alike: it was the first book to omit his signature explicit sexual scenes. The novel earned the author the prestigious Goncourt Prize.

Houellebecq is one of those authors who draws a large readership to literature today. Some critics dismiss his work, while others adore it and place him on a pedestal. Now, listeners will have the opportunity to revisit his work with a rebroadcast of a twelve-part serialized reading, originally recorded in 2015.
