Dubai, UAE – KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has extended its flight suspensions to Dubai and other destinations in the Gulf region through Sunday, March 1, 2026, following strikes in Iran, leaving thousands of travelers stranded. The disruptions come after the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iranian territory on Saturday, February 28, 2026, prompting widespread airspace closures and flight cancellations.
The airline confirmed it would not be operating flights to Dubai on Sunday, exacerbating the difficulties faced by passengers attempting to travel to or from the region. This builds on Saturday’s widespread disruptions, which impacted Dubai, a major global travel hub.
Several Dutch travel companies, including Prijsvrij and D-reizen, have also cancelled flights to Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman, adding to the travel chaos. De Telegraaf reported on the cancellations.
Passengers are expressing growing concern and frustration as they remain stranded in the Middle East. “We saw the trail of a rocket, it was terrifying,” one traveler told NOS. AD.nl reported that thousands of Dutch vacationers are stranded in the region, with some expressing increasing anxiety about the situation.
Rosanne, a traveler stuck in Dubai with her family, described the sudden cancellation of their flight, stating, “Opeens werden alle vluchten gecanceld.”
KLM offers flights to Dubai under normal circumstances, and the current disruptions represent a significant challenge for both the airline and its passengers. The situation underscores the vulnerability of air travel to geopolitical instability and the potential for rapid disruptions in the Middle East.
