The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan/Cortina will kick off on February 6th and run through February 22nd. Over just a little more than two weeks, Italy will bring together nearly 3,000 of the world’s best winter sports athletes, including 20 Bulgarian athletes competing in 6 different sports. In this article, Actualno.com presents the schedule for the Bulgarian athletes at the Winter Olympics.

When are the starts of the Bulgarian Olympians in Milan/Cortina 2026

Bulgaria hasn’t won a medal at the Winter Olympics in 20 years. The country last took home a medal in 2006, similarly in Italy – during the Winter Olympics in Turin. Evgenia Radanova won silver in short track speed skating then. She has also brought home the most Olympic medals for Bulgaria – a total of three, including a silver and a bronze from Salt Lake City 2002. However, our biggest triumph came with Ekaterina Dafovska – an Olympic title in biathlon from Nagano 1998.

Now, Bulgaria will attempt to add to its Olympic medal count in winter sports, with a total of six disciplines represented. Tervel Zamfirov currently has the best chance for a medal, as he is the reigning world champion in snowboarding and has already achieved several strong finishes. Veteran Radoslav Yankov is also a contender for a medal in snowboarding, as is the rising star Malena Zamfirova, who has already proven she can shake up the women’s world elite.

Albert Popov also has medal potential in the alpine skiing disciplines, after recording a historic victory in a World Cup event last year, also in Italy – in Madonna di Campiglio. Vladimir Zografski is also in excellent form this season – with several top-10 finishes in the World Cup ski jumping events. In biathlon, Milena Todorova won two World Cup medals in 2025 and Bulgaria also has a chance for a strong showing in the relays.
