Curleři zakončili olympiádu vítězně
The Czech Republic’s curling team concluded their Olympic tournament with a win, defeating Sweden 10-4. This victory marked the end of their participation in the games, where they finished eighth overall with a record of three wins and six losses. Success in the competition required at least five wins to advance to the semifinals, a feat achieved by Switzerland, Canada, Norway, and Great Britain.
The Czech team capped off their Olympic run with a third consecutive win, following triumphs over China and Germany. Prior to this winning streak, they had suffered losses to the USA, Switzerland, Norway, Great Britain, Italy, and Canada.
The Czechs started strongly against Sweden, who were also eliminated from medal contention, taking a 3-1 lead after the third end. Their advantage grew to 5-1 following a mistake by the Swedish skip.
The Swedish team then made a change at skip and began to close the gap. Though, the Czechs extended their lead in the seventh end with two points, and added three more in the eighth, ending the match prematurely.
In the semifinals, Great Britain defeated Switzerland 8-5, and Canada beat Norway 5-4 after an extra end. The women’s semifinals will be held on Friday, featuring matchups between Sweden and Canada, and the USA and Switzerland.
Jílek na patnáctistovce třetí medaili nepřidal, vyhrál Ning Čung-jen
Speed skater Metoděj Jílek, a double medalist at the Milan games, did not add to his medal count in the 1500-meter race. The 19-year-old, who previously won gold in the 10,000 meters and silver in the 5,000 meters, finished sixteenth in the event. China’s Ning Čung-jen took gold with a time of 1:41.98, besting American Jordan Stolz by 77 hundredths of a second and the Netherlands’ Kjeld Nuis.
The 26-year-old Ning Čung-jen won in a new Olympic record of 1:41.98, securing his first gold medal at the Milan games after previously earning two bronze medals. Stolz settled for silver, despite having won all 1500-meter races in the World Cup season and aiming for a third triumph at the Olympics after winning the sprints on 500 and 1000 meters. Nuis had previously won gold in the 1500 meters at the previous two Games in Pyeongchang and Beijing.
Jílek competed in the seventh heat alongside Henrik Dombek. He defeated his German opponent with a time of 1:46.08, placing fourth. Later, twelve other speed skaters surpassed his time, leaving him 4.1 seconds behind the winner.
“The race wasn’t one of my best. I definitely could have done more, but it was probably due to my mindset,” Jílek said. “I overthought the race, focusing too much on the details. I couldn’t get into my rhythm and setup. That’s what got to me,” said the athlete from Prague, whose best result in the World Cup on this distance is fifth place.
Jílek is scheduled to conclude his Olympic Games on Saturday in the mass start event. The following day, he and fellow speed skater Martina Sáblíková will serve as the Czech flag bearers during the closing ceremony.
Sdruženáři uhájili ve štafetě osmé místo, Oftebro získal i třetí zlato
Norway’s Jens Luraas Oftebro won the sprint doubles with Andreas Skoglund, securing his third gold medal. Vytrval and Konvalinka maintained eighth place in the team event, finishing more than two and a half minutes behind the winners.
The 26-year-old Oftebro won in a time of 2:34, securing his third gold medal. The findings highlight the continued dominance of Norwegian athletes in Nordic combined events.
During the ski jumping portion of the event in Predazzo, the Germans were the best, but they were unable to secure a medal.
After a leading group of five, including Japan, lost members due to falls by Vinzenz Geiger, the race came down to a final push between Norway, Austria, and Finland.
In the final stretch, Oftebro overtook Hirvonen to claim the gold, while the Czech team held onto eighth place after the jump.
A near miss occurred during the ski jumping portion of the Olympic sprint doubles when American Nordic combined skier Benjamin Loomis was struck by a snow groomer. The 27-year-old was hit on the shoulder while preparing for his jump. “I was lucky it hit me in the shoulder. If it had hit my face, it would have been different,” Loomis told Norwegian television NRK.
Hokejistky USA mají zlato, Kanadu porazily 2:1 v prodloužení
The U.S. Women’s hockey team won gold, defeating Canada 2-1 in overtime in the final. Megan Keller scored the winning goal at 64:07, marking a return to the top after eight years and securing the Americans’ third Olympic gold medal.
Canada took the lead early in the second period, with Kristin O’Neill scoring just 54 seconds into the frame. However, the Americans tied the game with less than a minute remaining in regulation, thanks to a deflection by captain Hilary Knight at 57:56, before Keller’s overtime winner.
The Americans entered the match as strong favorites, bolstered by their dominant 5-0 victory over Canada in the group stage. Canada, however, proved to be a formidable opponent in the first period.
In the second period, O’Neill opened the scoring for Canada. The Americans responded with pressure, but were initially denied by Canadian goaltender Desbiensová.
With the clock winding down, the Americans pulled their goalie for an extra attacker and Knight’s tying goal sent the game to overtime. Keller then secured the victory for the U.S. In the extra frame.
The Americans, who have now faced Canada in five consecutive Olympic finals, have won eight medals in women’s hockey – three gold, four silver, and one bronze. Canada has played in eight finals, winning five gold medals and earning three silver.
Švýcarské hokejistky berou bronz, porazily Švédsko v poslední minutě prodloužení
The Swiss women’s hockey team secured the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Milan, defeating Sweden 2-1 in overtime. Müller scored the winning goal at 69:09, repeating her feat from the 2014 Sochi Games where Switzerland also defeated Sweden for bronze.
The Swiss team trailed for much of the game. Sweden took the lead in the 32nd minute with a goal from Jungakerová, but Leemannová equalized just four minutes later.
With 8,243 spectators watching, the game went to overtime, where Müller secured the victory for Switzerland with less than a minute remaining.
Sweden has also won two Olympic medals – a bronze in 2002 and a silver in 2006, but have not reached the podium since.
Olympijskou premiéru skialpinismu vyhráli Cardona a Fattonová
Spain’s Oriol Cardona and Switzerland’s Marianne Fattonová won the first-ever Olympic skialpinism titles. They triumphed in Bormio, winning the sprint race in front of packed stands and amidst heavy snowfall. Russian athlete Nikita Filippov, competing as a neutral athlete, won silver.
Cardona’s winning sprint took just 2 minutes and 34 seconds, while Fattonová was the only competitor to finish under three minutes. The mixed relay will be the second and final event for skialpinism.
Fattonová, the daughter of former Czechoslovakian cross-country skier Anna Janoušková, confirmed her status as the favorite in the 18-athlete field.
In the men’s final, Cardona, the leader of the World Cup standings, secured the gold. Filippov took silver, marking the first medal for a neutral athlete at the Games in Italy. France’s Thibault Anselmet won bronze.
The competition also saw a frightening incident involving American skier Benjamin Loomis, who was struck by a snow groomer during the ski jumping portion of the sprint doubles. Loomis was able to continue the competition after being checked by medical personnel.

Persistent snowfall has postponed the freestyle ski aerials competition in Livigno, including Nicholas Novák’s event, to Friday. The qualification round, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was also affected by the weather conditions.
The International Ski Federation (FIS) announced that the qualification will now begin at 10:30 on Friday, followed by the final. Novák is scheduled to start tenth.
The adverse weather also led to a rescheduling of the ski halfpipe qualification, which has been moved to Friday evening.
