Closing Ceremony: What the Grand Finale in the Arena Holds
Enchantment and beauty between dance and music, from the classic Roberto Bolle to the ultramodern dance of Gabry Ponte, before the eyes of Prime Minister Meloni and Speaker Fontana. The Verona Arena is preparing to host the closing ceremony of these XXV Winter Games of Milan Cortina, the first “distributed” Olympics, a resounding success for the Italian colors. Donald Trump will not be in attendance, nor will he be in Milan for the USA-Canada hockey final, and neither will Sébastien Lecornu, the French Prime Minister who will “inherit” the 2030 Winter Games edition. “Beauty in Action” is the title of the show. In a few hours, the Roman Amphitheater will transform into the beating heart of the event, which promises to be much more than a simple concluding act: a great collective celebration, a story of Italy through its artists, a celebration capable of uniting sport, culture and entertainment. Filmmaster, whose CEO Antonio Abete emphasizes the importance of the event, is leading the organizational machine: “It will be an evening that wants to share the story of Italy through the language of art and music. A worthy conclusion to a great Olympics, but also an incredible festive moment for everyone.” The goal, he explains, is to transform the closing into a memorable experience, worthy of the emotion experienced by the athletes and the public during the weeks of competition. The cast of confirmed artists spans different genres and sensibilities. Benedetta Porcaroli, one of the most beloved faces of contemporary Italian cinema, will be alongside Roberto Bolle, called upon to sign a performance announced as “unique”, specially designed for the occasion. “With Roberto we are building something special, extraordinary,” Abete stresses. Music will be a protagonist with Achille Lauro, Gabry Ponte and Major Lazer, in a mix capable of speaking to different generations. “We wanted to unite different worlds – adds the CEO of Filmmaster – to return the energy and creativity of our country. It will be a choral, powerful, popular narrative.” At the center of the scene will be them, the athletes: about 1,400, perhaps even more, who will parade and participate in the final party. “They are the true protagonists – concludes Abete -. This ceremony is designed to greet and thank them, together with the public, with the embrace of all of Italy.” Verona will thus prepare for the other big ceremony, the one that will open the Milan Cortina 2026 Paralympics on March 6th, which President Mattarella is expected to attend. An event that promises to be controversial from a political point of view, due to the presence of Russia and Belarus, which the International Paralympic Committee has decided to admit with their own flags, unlike the IOC.
