The XXV Olympic Winter Games, officially known as Milano Cortina 2026, are underway, running from February 6th to February 22nd, 2026, in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. This marks the first time in Olympic history that two cities are co-hosting the Winter Games.
Today, February 14th, marks the continuation of competition across multiple venues including Milan, Cortina d’Ampezzo, Rho, Assago, Bormio, Livigno, Predazzo, Rasun-Anterselva, and Tesero. Italy is hosting the Winter Olympics for the third time, having previously hosted in Cortina d’Ampezzo in 1956 and Turin in 2006, and similarly hosted the Summer Games in Rome in 1960.
The opening ceremony was held on February 6th, 2026, presided over by Sergio Mattarella, while the closing ceremony is scheduled for February 22nd, 2026, at the Arena di Verona. Athletes Maurizio Marchetto, Stefania Constantini, Dominik Fischnaller, and Elisabetta Biavaschi took the athlete’s oath. Alberto Tomba and Deborah Compagnoni served as the last torchbearers in Milan, with Sofia Goggia carrying the flame in Cortina.
This edition of the Games follows the most recent Winter Olympics in Beijing 2022 and precedes the 2030 Games in the French Alps. The opening ceremony took place at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. More details about the event can be found here.
The Games’ motto is “Dreaming Together – It’s Your Vibe.”
